⚖️ Human Rights Lawyer Sues Tonto Dikeh Over Alleged Religious Ritual on Schoolgirl
Abuja, Nigeria – Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has filed a ₦200 million fundamental rights suit at the FCT High Court, Abuja, against Nollywood actress and self‑claimed evangelist Tonto Dikeh.
The suit alleges that Dikeh violated the rights of a Junior Secondary School 1 pupil from Durumi II, Abuja, during an alleged religious deliverance ritual. According to the affidavit, viral videos and photos posted on Dikeh’s social media reportedly show the schoolgirl being laid on bare ground and pressed against a stony surface during the ritual.
Obasi claims that the incident subjected the child to public humiliation, psychological trauma, and stigma, and argues that it violated her rights under the Nigerian Constitution and the Child Rights Act 2003.
The lawyer is seeking:
₦200 million in damages,
An order declaring the act as a violation of the child’s fundamental rights,
Removal of the videos and photos from social media,
A public apology, and
A permanent injunction restraining Dikeh from performing similar acts on any child in Nigeria.
The case is currently filed and awaiting a hearing date at the FCT High Court.
