The Osun State Police Command has arrested two Customs officers in connection with the killing of a driver in Osogbo, Osun State. The officers, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were reportedly involved in a chase targeting vehicles suspected to be carrying smuggled goods.
The tragic incident occurred in the Dada Estate area where the driver, traveling in an ashโcoloured Toyota Corolla, was shot. He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities recovered a Beretta pistol, ammunition, and two Toyota Corollas at the scene, including one with Lagos registration plates. Residents reported that the victimโs car was riddled with bullets, prompting outrage and demands for justice.
CP Ibrahim Gotan, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, has assured the public of a thorough investigation and stated that those found guilty will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges with smuggling operations and law enforcement in the region, and raises questions about the use of lethal force during vehicle pursuits.
